I went back up to my hometown for the holiday weekend and squeezed a day and a half away to check in on one of my favorite rivers with Brandon. It is definitely considered the “off season” but neither one of us were concerned with that and were just anxious to have a look, poke around, and swing some flies. Two weeks ago Dave and I made a run up the Central Valley to check in on the King Salmon run. They were there, but showed absolutely no interest in anything in our fly boxes.
My next trip (last night) started out the same. A few fish were rolling here and there but appeared to have absolutely no interest in my flies, the very same flies that have not let me down there in 7 years. Even the gear guys were complaining of the poor fishing.
