Shortest Surf Perch Morning Yet

[Image]Jose Silva was in town for a very short visit. He wasn’t intending on fishing on this trip and therefore hadn’t brought any gear but Dave, Jeff, and I wouldn’t have any of it.

The weather and surf conditions weren’t expected to be very good but we didn’t have the luxury of rescheduling due to the limited schedule. The day before he left we dragged him out to the coast at o’dark-thirty and caught 200+ surf perch a piece! OK, not really… we actually got absolutely, and completely, skunked!

Between the 3 of us we managed to hook Jose up with a rod, a reel, boots, and an unbelievably small pair of waders (that Dave swears he was once able to fit into).

Dave’s old waders fit Jose like a glove

A really really tight glove

The wind was howling and the surf was just plain nasty!

We pretended to fish for about an hour before someone mentioned the word breakfast ?

Yep , sounds good , let’s go .

…must come off

We hit the diner in town and retold fishing stories from trips in the past over breakfast and coffee until we were eventually asked to leave. Apparently there were more “respectable” customers waiting for our table.

Good friends, and good times

Remember Jose’s Surf Caught Steelhead from last year?
