Delta with Erica

[Image, Erica, California Delta Striper Fly Fishing]After last weekend’s incredible fishing I invited my friend Erica out for the weekend. With her busy schedule lately I was pleasantly surprised when she accepted. We’d tentatively planned to fish both days but the place I typically stay was booked and unlike last weekend, there was wind forecast, so a day trip it was.

We got an early morning start and spent the dawn throwing top water, me Lee’s Sub Zero and Erica a spinning rod. We hit some pretty sweet, “big-fish” water where I was really looking forward to Erica getting the shock of her life when a double digit Moe exploded on her Zara Spook. But it never happened. I had 2 medium blowups on the SZ, one of which was a definite blackie, neither of which were hooked.

The wind howled and the bass boats were everywhere but we still managed to find a few cooperative fish.

Erica got a couple fishing sub surface, and I got a few in the 2 – 3 pound range but other than that it was a pretty slow day from a fish catching perspective but a day well spent with good company.

And best of all, on the drive home she said, “Let’s do 2 days next time”!
