Flag Cabrilla (Epinephelus) also known as Cabrilla Piedrera and Flag Grouper
Barred Pargo (Hoplopagrus guntheri) or Barred Snapper
Needle Fish (Mar-C-ial in spanish), This is a small one. I had one that was over 5 feet long come in and grab a hooked Lady Fish I was playing. It tore it to shreds as I was going for the camera and then let go as I opened the shutter. The poor Lady fish was mangled and dead when I brought it in.
Lady Fish, known to the locals as Machete and commonly referred to as The Poor-Man’s Tarpon. These are one of my favorite’s to catch, it’s amazing how hard they can pull, how fast they can run, how high they can jump, and how badly their sand-paper jaw can pull the hairs out of your flies and fray your leader. You usually need to change your tippet after every one, but it’s a price I’m usually willing to pay. These guys are just fun!
Another Baby Rooster
It was hard to believe we were on the Sea of Cortez side of the peninsula a couple of nights.
While nursing a punctured forearm over a cold Pacifico (danged 2/0 clousers & the wind) Brandon punched a few more casts out into the pounding surf
By the 5th or 6th morning the local fisherman finally accepted our invitation to continue his fishing between the three of us
