Baja 2007

[Fly Fishing, fly caught cuddle fish, cuddlefish]
Will a Cuddle-Fish take a fly?

[Baja Beach Fly Fishing, two hander]

[Baja Beach Fly Fishing, siesta]
Re-hydration, Mexican style…

[Baja Beach Fly Fishing, Baby Rooster on 2 hander]
Another Baby Rooster, did I mention how cool these little guys are!

[Baja Beach Fly Fishing, Jelly fish]
The Jelly fish were as thick as the Mother’s Day caddis hatch on the Arkansas, worse than I’d ever seen before down there. They were in the water and on the sand, big ones little ones, blue ones, pink ones, orange ones and transparent ones. I haven’t ID’d this one yet but judging from the photo I suspect it’s a subspecies of “the blue ones”.

[Baja Beach Fly Fishing, Cornet fish]
Cornet Fish (though we like to call them Corneighs). An annoyingly slimy fish that tries to swim backwards when hooked, kind of like a chihuahua trying to play tug-of-war with a mule.

[Baja Lizard]
The local lizards learned quickly not to cross our patio while we were home. And the ones that did quickly learned that if they made the mistake of running for the BBQ or the folding chairs instead of the cactus patches or the open beach there was a high probability that instead of soaking up the sun or continuing their hunt for small insects, the next 10 – 15 minutes of their life would be spent dodging swooping hands and trying to out smart the scientifically thought out complex capture strategies drawn-up by 3 of the most experienced lizard capturers Mexico has ever seen. Most of them were successful, this one was not. Photos were taken and he was sent on his way, keeping a respectful distance and a watchful eye on us for the remaining days of our stay.

[Baja Beach Fly Fishing, picture taken through polarized sunglasses]
I took a few shots through my polarized sun glasses to give an idea of what it looks like through our polarized eyes. This one turned out pretty accurate.

[Baja Beach Fly Fishing]
Our 6th trip south of the border and finally a desert iguana made a bad move. Apparently he hadn’t got the word yet that we were in town.

[Baja Beach Fly Fishing, Panama Graysby (Cephalopholis panamensis)]
Panama Graysby (Cephalopholis panamensis) also known as Tiger Grouper

[Baja Beach Fly Fishing]
I love the colors in the shot

[Baja Beach Fly Fishing, Triggerfish (Co-chi)]
Trigger fish (Co-chi in spanish). Brandon learned the hard way last year to keep his hands away from their crushing jaws.

[Baja Beach Fly Fishing, Cornet fish]
